Reviewer's Comments: This little place has been around for probably two to
three years. I didn't stumble on to it until about a year ago. Apparently the owner used
to do a lot of smoking on his own and also entered various BBQ cook-offs, which by looking
at the many ribbons which cover the walls of this former "Tastee-Freeze"
carryout, he did quite well at! Not only is all the meat unbelievably moist and tender,
but the prices are shockingly reasonable. There are two sizes of sandwiches a small which
comes on a regular size hamburger bun costs $1.50, and the large which comes on an
oversized bun for $3.00. Neither of which have the mountian of meat weighed before being
placed on the bun! The daily traditional fare is Pork Shoulder, Beef Brisket, Chicken, Hot
Links, Turkey and Ribs. On certain days he also has various other options such as Cajun
Pork Chops and Brauts just to mention a couple. Besides sandwiches, he also offers various
"dinners" as well. Sides consist of slaw, creamy potato salad and some very
"zippy" beans which contain at least three different varieties. For $5.00 I can
grab a large sandwich, side and a drink and be totally stuffed. You may have noticed the
atmosphere rating being a little low, and that would be due to the fact that there is one
table inside with 6 chairs as well as 2 stools at a ledge along a window. Other than that
if the weather's decent you can sit down at one of three picnic tables outside, or you'd
better plan on takin' it with you. From about 11:00 a.m. til 1:00 p.m. It's standing room
only and it's not unusual to see a couple of folks left standing outside waiting for
enough room to open up inside so they can get their order in. You may also call in or Fax
your order in to avoid the rush. Regardless of the crowd, the food is always served up
quick. Catering is also available regardless of size, as well as custom smoking (I had
them do my Xmas turkey). So, if you either live in or around Wichita, Ks. or are just
passing through, I'd make this a definate place to check out!

Reviewer's Comments: This was a surprize stop. We hadn't planned to stop as early as
we did, but are we glad that we did. The resturant is very clean, with homey decore. The
owner of the Catteman's was a very friendly couple. He was very busy getting ready for
Sunday, but had time to meet me and explain his barbecue. This was a wonderful eating
experience. A little out of the way but well worth it.The beef is moist with a great ring
of smoke, and large portions.Hope you have as good an experience as we did.

Comments Oklahoma Joes' is just a bitt off the wall, located on the line between johnson and wyandotte counties in kansas. The restaurant is inside a conoco gas station, with windows overlooking a liquor store. yeah thats a little different, but the meat and the beans are incredible.
