Reviewer's Comments:  WELL....I can only say one thing, PATOOEEEE The place is a real small place with the ladies working the floor doing their best to make you feel like you were at MOM's house.  "Oh, come on in honey, sit any where ya like, can I get something for you to dring?" That was real nice.  There seem to be an average crowd for about 9pm on a weeknight.  I ordered a 3 Way COMBO Beef Ribs, Spareribs and Sliced Beef $17.95.  I guess I must have been way to hungry because against my better judgement I ordered Beef Ribs.  I started my BBQ tastes on Beef ribs and I seemed to think I did a pretty good job with them but I've sworn off them now as being too greasy.  Anyway they brought the food along with Beans and Tate salad, which I took one taste of each and said that they were OK but wasn't going to let them stand between me and the mound of BBQ meat that was piled in front of me.  I started in on the beef ribs and they were VERY tough and greasy.  I then went to the Spareribs and they were very tough also.  I tried the Sliced beef last and it was very tender but had an off taste too it like there was too much liquid smoke.  Overall everything had a taste/texture that it had been cooked in a covered pan in an oven ALL DAY LONG, it was tough and dry and very chewy.  I'm not sure what was up with the sliced beef but after two bites I didn't proceed any further.  It was not a good experience but us porch members are probably pretty finicky when we go out for BBQ.  I should have know when I got out of the car and didn't smell smoke.

Reviewer's Comments:  I found an add in the local paper that listed "2 Great Restaurants - 1 Owner" for Ribs USA and Rubin's Red Hots. Rubin's was the closest so I got there just as they were closing so I had to go thru the drive in and I ordered their "Presidential Platter" $14.95, one full slab of our mouth watering Baby Back Ribs, with a soda and Fries.  I took them back to my room and while there were a definite step above Dr. Hobly Wogly's, but they were your basic ribs with sauce (containing liquid smoke) on them.  I wouldn't even rate them as high as Tony Roma's.

Reviewer's Comments:  The rating of 2.5 for the meat is a combo of two ratings.  First time thru the line I ordered a brisket sandwich, it was very very good.   I liked it so much I ordered a side order of brisket the second time thru.  They had run out of the first brisket and cut into a second one.   It was way overcooked.   They apologized saying they got some undersized briskets that they had overcooked.  If it were my place, I would simply not have served it and said I was out of brisket.  So the first brisket was a 4.2 but the second was a 1.2 (awful).  I think they deserve a second chance, but not a third, they have been around too long to feed the mistakes to paying guests.

Reviewr's Comments:  San Francisco Bay Area porchers have another good Q outlet to go to. Everett and Jones just opened another restaraunt in Downtown Oakland, just a couple blocks north of Jack London Square.

This new one is a very nice sit down restaraunt with the pit sitting in the middle of the floor, open air with a giant exhaust vent over it. There are one person booths circling the pit/work area for folks who want to watch the pit at work and lots of tables for those who don't.

The decor is yuppy garage-sale, the tables and chairs are in different styles and the bar has some really strange fake reptile skin stools. Knick knacks abound. I had an old victrola sitting next to my table, which was a glass covered door section, and I sat on something that looked like a pair of old movie theater seats (wood, folded up, padded seat and back). The room is very open and spacious and the scent of smoke is everywhere, I definatly smell like I've been in front of a bbq pit and I ate 3 hours ago.

The food is classic Everett and Jones - Ribs, Chicken, Beef, and Links. With no change of quality from the other joints in the chain, but there are more sides to choose from for those who order off the dine-in menu. The pricing is a step higher than its sibling joints, but well in line with places like Tony Roma's or The Hick'ry Pit (and much MUCH tastier grub).

So if you are looking for Q in Oakland and want to go somewhere where your date won't get nervous, check out Everett and Jones at Second and Broadway in Oakland. It's good stuff!

Reviewer's Comments:  The meal as it comes out looks so inviting that your mouth starts watering. They take whole potato and slice it length wise and make french fries that look awsome. This was a big wagon with all different types of meants. It had chicken, ribs, steak, french fires, which happened to be so good, and corn. Im getting hungury thinking about it. Reviewer's Comments:  My husband and I have been going to Woody's for so many years, I can't even tell you how long ago it was. Although the address is listed as Santa Barbara, Woody's is now located in Goleta -- and we still think its worth the extra drive. Our personal favorites are the baby back pork ribs, but to be honest, we've enjoyed everything from burgers to prime rib at Woody's and in all this time have only ONCE had a meal where we didn't think it was the best we've ever had. And we try every BBQ place we come across. I wish they could find a location in Santa Barbara again (originally, they were just a few blocks off the beach and a stone's throw from the Amtrak station), only because it will put less miles on our cars! I gave the meat a 4.5, and I think I didn't give it a 5 because I always hold out hope that somewhere in this lifetime I'll find something even better (but I doubt it). I gave the side dishes a 4.5. We love the french fries, but the cole slaw is a bit too tangy for our tastes. Service is usually very good, and they have tried to retain that great atmosphere at the new location (its just probably a little more difficult in a shopping center). They do still have plenty of patio seating, underneath the shade of a big tree -- the people-watching may not be as good, but the food sure is!

Reviewer's Comments:  The place is owned by Nate Thurmond, NBA Hall of Famer, and Golden State Warrier All-Star. It's quite small, only three tables, and you pick your food up at the counter. They have two large brick pits, and use oak exclusively. They have three speeds of sauce: mild, medium, and hot. We had the mild, and it was quite spicy. You can have the sauce on the meat or on the side. I had the brisket, and it had a good smoke ring, was tender and juicy, and had great flavor. My daughter had the beef links, and they were very tasty also. They serve greens, country beans, potatlo salad, cole slaw, and corn muffins. We can vouch for the beans, potato salad, slaw and muffin. All were very good. The carrot and honey pie tastes like sweet potato pie and is quite good. They also serve "Memphis Pork", chicken, and pork ribs, which we didn't try, but if they are anything like the brisket and lilnks, they must be good. Most of their business is done in take-out and delivery.

He has a brick pit and uses fruit woods, preferring orange and lemon. The pork spare ribs are served only on the weekend, but are worth the wait, they are tender, juicy, and very flavorfull. There was a very noticeable smoke ring on the pork and beef. Reviewer's Comments: I was very excited to see Love's come to our town. I have not been to one in about 10 years due to re-location, I was a regular customer 2-3 times a week prior at the Granada Hills location. Boy what a dissapointment!! and disgrace to the name! The Clam Chowder was like thick chunky mashed potatoes, the bbq beans were thick and pastey. Pork ribs were tender and decent. Cheesburger was ok, and bbq sandwich was ok but lacking something. We ordered an appitizer sampler that included a "stuffed corn cake" the waiter said the corn thing is an edible item, ha ha it would have made a great hockey puck! This location visit has discouraged me from ever going to ANY Love's again. I am going to find if it is a corporate location or franchise, at this rate they will probably be closed real soon. This restaurant was made famous by the movie Top Gun, which used the interior in several scenes. Therefore, it is the only widely known BBQ place in the city. Because of that, it regularly receives the most votes for best BBQ in San Diego. Don't believe it. It's almost downtown and convenient to the convention center and Seaside Village, a large outdoor mall. Fame, location, and a lack of suitable competition means it's successful and popular. The food is passable. They opened a second location which had to get by on the food and it went out of business.

This place is run by a Russian emigre who learned his craft while living in Dallas. His location, near a side gate to MCAS Miramar doesn't hurt, but his product is good enough to stand in its own right. I can't say it's the best in San Diego because I haven't yet tried everyplace in town. However, it's the only BBQ place in the county that I've eaten at repeatedly. He concentrates on Q - Pork, Brisket, sausage, ham, and turkey. If you want sauce, add your own - a hot and mild are available.

This is the authentic barbecue in Los Angeles. The beef ribs, baby back ribs, the tri tip beef and chicken wholes are slow smoked in barrel smokers. This ensures that the meats flavor is actually retained, on the spot made, not as fast food prepared by shortcut or some where else then reheated. Slow smoking keeps the hickory flavor and tenderness in the meats. The french fries are made from fresh potatoes. Corn bread muffins are freshly baked on the premises.

this is absolutely the bes bbq ever. There's other locations but the berkeley one is the 1 if you're into fine bbq. Everett & Jones is Alabama style and also my favorite kind of bbq so far. Isn't the texas sauces a little too sour? Anyone with great BBQ knowledge that knows a better bbq joint in the world please E-mail me at Oaklandvietnames@aol.com

In the grand tradition of Mueller Barbecue!!! By far, the best in Austin. The only rival I know of for Brisket is Louie Mueller's in Taylor, TX.

I live 2 1/2 hr drive from this eatery. I drive past many of the other BBQ places to Hogly Wogly's. The brisket and sauage links are the best, you may find brisket as good somewhere in the south but you will not find better. The atmosphere is 100% BBQ, if this was a large shiny restaurant the food would not be real BBQ. I will continue to drive 2 1/2 hrs. to eat here. It is very hard to find REAL BBQ it is here. I even saw a Hollywood Star while dining here. He could afford to dine anywhere he drove to Hogly Wogly's. 'Nuff Said !

Big Jim's is owned by a man from Alabama. I have been there several times. Their best meat items are pork ribs, and pulled pork sandwiches. The sandwiches come on potato rolls. There are two sauce choices. "Texas" style, which I find way too sweet, and their "Alabama" style, which is heavily laced with mustard and vinegar, and is great.

The tritip reads well on the menu, but is very disappointing. Both in flavor, and portion. The only other demerit I'd give them is for serving "mashed potato" fries, which are available at any Smart and Final.

The sides, other than the fries, are good. The cole slaw is very fresh and not too mayonnaisey, the sweet-potato fries are great, as are the beans and the hush-puppies.

For dessert, they have a delicious sweet potato pie. Prices are around $12-14 for dinners.

Carmens has been a Hayward staple for many years, this is the place that got me hooked, sliced beef is tender and flavorfull, the ribs are smoked to perfection, but the links and sauce are unbelievable! Sweet potato pie and corn bread are so good they usually sell out. Sit at the bar,..Carmen and her family (hence the name) run the store, they are Jamaicans, Uncle Dee is a kick in the pants if you can understand him, a second location is in Fremont Ca. at Fremont Blvd. and Blacow, run by Carmens son Robert.

Excellent baby back ribs, tri-tip, and pulled pork. Every thing is smoked on site in the Smoker parked in front of the restaurant. The sides are very good (beans, slaw ). Much of his business is takeout, but the dinning area will easily seat 20-25. We try to plan our trips that take us through Bakersfield such that we can stop for lunch or dinner there when ever possible. He's located on the North side of Bakersfield, just east of Hwy 65 (from Hwy 99, take the Hwy 65 exit North and then East on 7 Standard Road) in a little shopping center on 7 Standard Road.

This is my first business I have ever owned and operated. However my family owns and operates B&M Bar-B-Que in Cleveland OH. So we have a East coast and West Coast B&M and everyone is welcome. First and foremost our restaurant is popular for our homemade chicken links and special seasoning for Ribs, chicken, beef and hot and mild beef links. The sauce is also a family recipe sweet and just the right amount of spices. We also have homemade side orders potato salad, baked beans, greens, hot water cornbread, mac&cheese, cole slaw and cabbage. We also have the altimate PEACH COBBLER, sweet potato pie and lemon pound cake. Our ribs and ribtips fall right off the bone "satisfaction guaranteed". So if your ever in the neighborhood "PLEASE" come and give us a try. FREE SAMPLES ANYTIME!!!!!

Great Q !!! Meat was tender and flavorful. Ribs needed a bit more smoke flavor. Tri tip was perfect.Hot links were more like italian sausage but still pretty good. But the guy behind the counter could have cared less if we or any one else was there. He would not help us in any way. I know it was Sunday lunch but customers should be treated better. Food was great though. I will go back

Memphis Minnies has a great reputation from those who are knowledgable in BBQ. The neighborhood is "differenct" as it is located in what is called the "lower Haight", sort of an expansion of the hippie culture into the filmore. Parking is a bear. You have to cruise for some time to get a space and prepare to walk. The decor is bright colors and a fun pig with a chef hat logo. The staff is an electic mix as well. The clientelle seems to be reserved for serious students of BBQ cuisine. The owner is a grad of the California Culinary Academy who later read Smokestack Lighting and made his own pilgrinage to various establishments througout the country to master the process. He has succeeded. He does not believe in sauce (you will realize this after you tasts his meats...Wow....and then his sauces....yuk. This is not a problem as I well remember so called BBQ that is sauce poured over par boiled ribs and finished in an oven...bla. You really don't need sauce for this stuff...its that good! The brisket is out of this world. Cooked 18 hours in white oak. The ribs are really good (better than Nates, but not as good as Armadillo Willies Baby backs.) The pulled pork is awesome, the links are not in the league of the soul food shacks (Pittman's is the best for that). I have yet to try the chicken as I don't usually go to BBQ's for chicken. The sides are forgettable, but I don't go to BBQ restaurants for sides. Again, Willies has the best sides. The sweet potatoe pie is not bad, but a bit wattery, could use some more sugar to bring it up to the soul food standard. I am hooked on the brisket and pork, wish there was a good red sauce like Nates, but this place is really awesome. If you are a serious student of BBQ, check this place out.
