Spicy Barbeque Sauce


1/3 cup sugar
1 medium onion; finely chopped
1/2 cup boiling water
6 ounces tomato paste
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup vinegar
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon salt

In a medium saucepan, cook sugar over medium heat until beings to melt, shaking pan occasionally (do not stir). Reduce heat to low and add onion. Cook and stir 5 minutes until sugar is golden brown. Carefully and gradually, add the boiling water, stirring constantly. Whisk in remaining ingredients. bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer, uncovered for 10-15 minutes or until desired consistency.
